Azhar (Emraan Hashmi) is a biopic of an Indian cricketer Mohammad Azaharuddin who was a former captain of national team. He has played 99 test matches for India and after that he has blamed for match fixing and his connection with bookies. The Indian cricket board banned him but Azhar was not ready to accept this as he was a fighter and he filed case against his ban and appoint his lawyer friend Reddy to fight his case.
Azhar told each and every detail of his childhood till marriage to his friend and lawyer Reddy, he told him that he has inspired to play cricket because of his Nanaji (grandfather) and he has given promise to his grandfather that he will play 100 test matches for India. Azhar has scored three centuries in his first three test matches and became the hero of India. Then he married with Naureen (Prachi Desai) and after 1991 he selected as the captain of the team India. Then he fall in love with Sangeeta Bijlani (Nargis Fakhri), a bollywood actress and then they got married.

Meera (Lara Duttta) who is fighting the case against Azhar has shown the video footage of senior cricketers and team members of Azhar and they all were telling that Azahar has taken lots of money for match fixing. In the movie the sense of jealousy in players with the young captain has shown the most important reason for giving wrong statements against Azhar. Finally after eight years of court hearing Azhar won the case by Reddy’s help, he argues that a sting operation has been done by a team member of Azhar and all the witnesses has denied giving their statements in court so they could not take that as an authentic proof. Another argument was about cricket association gives salary to inquiry commission so they would give their decision in favour of them. Thus Azhar won the case. Naureen and Sangeeta both have supported Azhar at his last hearing. In end it ravels that Azhar has taken money for bookie but he won the match he has done that because he wanted to stop that bookie for going to any other player, and he also returned those money back to that bookie.

Before all this blames and issues Azhar was very much favourite among the people, after this allegation he became the worst person and villain among the people, nobody have respect for him as we could see in the scene of gym opening but after winning the court case he was again a hero of India. We could see that how the perspective of people changes.  Media, newspaper and roomers plays vital role in creating an image of somebody.

The connection between public and private life of celebrities is also presented well that how private lives of celebrities became more controversial and how people look towards their relations.

It could be a satire on our judicial system that though the proofs were unauthentic, how long the process of justice could be. Fight was very hard because no one was on side of Azhar, but he fought alone and won and after that people supported him.

Movie is not totally based on Azhar’s life, as there are many dramatic elements, first when Azhar says in his introduction,

“Main tin baaton k liye famous hu...”

The movie is also presented in a dramatic way with a flashback technique, which confuses the audience. The way of telling incidents is quite confusing; if we even miss a one link we would miss the whole story.
