Kanthapura - Raja Rao

Kanthapura
-      Raja Rao

Raja Rao was one of the prominent writers in history of Indian writing in English. There were three major writers of that time, Mulk Raj Anand, R. K. Narayan and Raja Rao.

Kanthapura is an imaginative village. Raja Rao has presned the freedom fighting movement in that village. Moorthy was the follower of Gandhi and also the protagonist. He wanted freedom with the help of Gandhian ideas. Here the writer has presented the views and followers of Gandhi. The novel contains Gandhian ideology and freedom struggle.

Gandhi ji has presented ideas and Moorthy has brought those ideas to the village and performed as a reformer and spread Gandhian ideas. Ratan was also inspired by this and also continued the movement when Moorthy was not there. Moorthy was having Gandhian virtue and also a spokesman of the movements of Gandhi.

Kanthapura contains the old format of storytelling that a grandmother is telling stories of the great history to the children, the tale of the hero, who has won the battle by the help of Gandhian ideals of peace, non violence and truth.
