The Night has a Thousand Eyes
- Francis William
Bourdillon
Francis William
Bourdillon was a British poet and translator. He was mostly known for his
single short poem “The Night has a Thousand Eyes”
The Night has a Thousand Eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.
The mind has a Thousand Eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of the whole life dies
When the love is done.
On the other hand, Mind has thousand
eyes (thoughts, ideas) but heart has one (feelings). We can’t perform brainy activities
if our heart is not happy and our feelings are hurt.
The poet has given the connection and
importance of heart and mind. Thousands of stars cannot beat the brightness of
sun and the highest IQ level cannot beat the feelings of heart. When there will
be a feeling of love, the person would love to think about the loving person
only rather than any other thing. Heart has not such capability which mind has.
Human being cannot perform difficult tasks by heart but it can be done by mind,
though heart decides what to do and what not to do. Heart commands and mind
performs. When person is in love, mind is also controlled by heart and feelings.
Person remains below the sky of twinkling stars…
