Preparation before presentation
Presenter can effectively plan by the asking certain questions: Whom, where, when, what and how. These questions can help presenter to gather important and necessary information. A presenter can plan a good presentation with necessary information.
1. to whom: Every audience is different. Presenter should make the presentation informative and interesting for audience. The main important point which a presenter should keep in mind is that all the members in audience is not knowledgeable enough to understand everything. Presentation should be easy to understand.
2. Where and when: the place where a presenter has to present his presentation is very important. A presenter should be aware with the sitting arrangements, lighting conditions, acoustic, the possibility of using various audiovisual aids and the case of difficulty of conducting a dialogue with members of the audience.
Will the presenter be preceded or followed by others on a program?
What will the topic be?
What time of the day is the presentation?
Will the audience be enthusiastic or ready to go home when the presentation comes up?
How much time is available?
These factors can guide the presenter’s tone as well as the content.
3. What and how: There are many kinds of information – quantitative, qualitative, historical, verbal, pictorial and predictive. The presenter should select visual aids if needed and also think about the questions and responses of audience after the presentation.
Taking together the above question – who, where, when, what and how can provide good guidance in the preparation of presentation. It can also help in setting the agenda for the key elements of preparation.
